Sentiments appreciated. But if we look at the history of the MMs one can understand why the government outsourced this "burden"/obligation to focussed NGOs. Back in the 1970s when MGR initiated it, MM controversies began. Hygiene, pilfering and frankly safety of the many makeshift (keet roof!) kitchens that sprung up. Gas cylinder shortages, wood fires - smoke pollution... the list goes on.

Outsourcing was, I think, pragmatic of the government. And Re the egg issue - much of it is coming from the powerful egg lobby. Adding boiled eggs as a supplement should be an easy thing for the government to implement but in the end it is surely a state govt responsibility not a federal one.

Plan is simple, instead of eggs, the soybean will come from USA, after all there's Indian commitment of USD 500 billion import over 5 years, as confirmed by many including US ambassador to India. The loss will be for those Indians in the poultry business. Time will tell the rest.

ISKCON and Akshaya Patra meals are generally known to be nutritious and prepared hygienically. They can be consumed by both vegetarian and non-vegetarian children, as they are simply vegetarian meals. Given the low cost at which they are provided, I'm curious about what equally hygienic and affordable alternatives are available or how can it be made available. I'm trying to understand the basis of the controversy.

Eggs is the nutritious food is only the myth spreader by certain sections, its just like made the people habited with consumption of one peg of liquor daily. People raises issue oil, masala, , spices...... in food on pretext of unhealthy practice but no intellectual quotes liquor as the bad habit that destroys individual as well as society. In fact liquor is the habit that destroyed maximum people since independence but our activism never allows pinpoint about it. The same applies with consumption of non-veg food as well. One has to look at the overall nutritious component and hygiene standards. As far as government infrastructure is concerned it is highly corrupted and money making exercise by all stakeholders ( employees, government agencies, Politicians, and the private contractors) and entry of organisations like ISKON changed the landscape of mid-day scheme remarkably.

This is what 78 years of IAS bureaucraps have “achieved”- absolutely incapable of doing anything good. What as waste of money and time spent on them. The problem is still people and netas believe the babus xan deliver anything. Not one single village has been developed and administered to world standard. And civil admin has been the prerogative of IAS babus since independence.

Why should eggs be included in midday meals? Enough welfarism is being done by the Government - don't push this freebie narrative so far

Lately, Swarajya has turned into a negative and critical of everything Indian govt does. There are no positive developments in India in the eyes of Swarajya. Please learn to smell the roses. I used to like to read स्वराज्य articles, and even donated to the emag, but anymore the negativity turns me off. Please look at macro issues instead of going by some individual influencers negative comments.
